2017 Gingerbread House - The Pastry Café

Gingerbread Bakery Dollhouse by Artsy Raven

Originally I hadn't planned to make any gingerbread creating this last Christmas, I had a lot of things to worry about, and ended up feeling pretty low. Of course as soon as I started I felt better, more relaxed.
Instead of doing an ordinary gingerbread house I decided to do something else, a bakery dollhouse.

I love dollhouses and I've wanted to make one, or twenty, in a long time. However I've not had the time to make a wooden dollhouse, so instead I made one out of gingerbread.

Warning, this post is picture heave.

The design is inspired by the French bakery buildings, tall ones with pretty windows, flowers and pretty signs. Besides the ordinary gingerbread and royal icing I used marzipan and fondant.

And what is France without a scooter? This cute ride was made out of fondant, which worked out great because it dries out quickly, compared to marzipan of course. I also tried to make out of icing, but quickly understood it wouldn't work.

This cash register is made out of royal icing, painted with food colouring. I almost considered painting it gold or silver, but decided to leave it white instead. The cake on the stand next to it was made by my son, with help from me (the ones he made were way too huge to add to the bakery). He wanted it to have a piece cut out of it, so I showed him how to add "jam" to the centre of the cake.

Like any good bakery the are seats so the customers can enjoy something sweet. On the table there is a three layer plate with cookies, macarons and on top a Swedish Princess cake.

Behind the table, or more like the window, there are different pastries and baked goods and cakes.

On the top shelf there are small baguettes, croissants and some pastries with cream on top.
On the second shelf there are three different kinds of doughnuts, vanilla, strawberry and chocolate.
On the third shelf I made napoleon cakes on a stand, a white wedding cake and croquembouche.

On the second floor I made a bedroom with a bed, rug, vanity and pretty blue curtains.
Both the rug and bed is hand painted with food colours.
Sadly I decided after all the furniture were glued in place to make the walls white, which is why they don't look as great as I would have liked them to.

How could I not add details when I had the chance. On the vanity you will find a hairbrush, a hand mirror, a vintage perfume bottle, a vase with roses and two bottles of nail polish.

So here is my gingerbread creation, my first big creation, but certainly not my last.
